A Typical Day at Math Camp (schedule is flexible)
9:00 Warm Up
We begin the day with some kind of problem or brain teaser to get the students
thinking in a mathematical way.
9:30 - 11:30 Math Topics
and Problem Sets
First, the instructors will
give a prepared lecture introducing the topic of the day. Following the lecture,
the students will be given related problems to work on in groups or interactive
problems to solve.
11:30 - 12:00 Break
There will be
outdoor activities at this time, such as volleyball, wiffleball, Frisbee and
more.
12:00 - 1:00 Lunch
All camper will
dine together at the Ram's Den on campus, under staff supervision.
1:00 - 2:30 Computer
Lab
During lab time,
the students will be working with math software like Maple. Maple is a powerful
technical computing tool used in many disciplines such as mathematics, engineering,
biology, and physics. The students will also work with various web sites with
activities related to the day's lesson.
2:30 - 3:00 Wrap Up
During this time
we will have math contests, discussions and a general review of the days events.
